PA House Democratic Policy Committee Attainable Housing Roundtable
Last month, our Advocacy Coordinator Correne Kristiansen testified before the PA House Democratic Policy Committee about the urgent need for more attainable housing in Bucks and Montgomery Counties—housing for the one in four households who earn too much for assistance but still can’t make ends meet.
She shared powerful stories from our members and reminded legislators: “When families, seniors, and young workers can’t afford to live here, it weakens our schools, our workforce, and the very fabric of our communities.”

Legal Update: Nonprofits Await Court Decision on Nonprofit Nonpartisanship
A federal court in Texas is expected to rule soon on a case that could impact the longstanding Johnson Amendment, a 70-year-old law that prohibits nonprofits, including religious organizations, from engaging in partisan political activity.
The pending decision involves a proposed settlement between the IRS, the National Religious Broadcasters, and two Texas churches. Multiple organizations have submitted amicus briefs in recent weeks to weigh in on the case. Read more.
How Nonprofits Are Reinventing Themselves to Meet the Moment
“In both the financial crisis and the pandemic, the government was trying to help organizations figure stuff out,” says Onuka Ibe, managing partner at La Piana Consulting, whose work involves mergers and restructuring. “In this case, uncertainty is part of the design. The way the [administration’s] changes have been rolled out, organizations don’t have time to plan or understand what’s happening or make contingencies.” Charities are now left digging deeper into scenario planning, exploring new sources of earned income, and eyeing partnerships that could help them ride out the turmoil.
