  • Tuesday, November 10

Whether you joined us in August for Part I or are new to the conversation, we invite you to Shifting the Narrative: A Community of Practice (Part II). The agenda draws directly on input from Part I participants, and the session will give us space to deepen relationships, sharpen our shared language, and identify where we can move forward together.

Join us for a morning of art-making, reflection, and conversation led by Nia Eubanks-Dixon of Creative Praxis, co-sponsored by HealthSpark and the Tigris Foundation. Together, we’ll name what makes advocacy hard right now, ground ourselves in the values that brought us to this work, set boundaries that protect capacity, and meet colleagues across Bucks and Montgomery counties who can share the load.

You’ll leave with practical tools for your personal, organizational, and collective advocacy—and a little more room to breathe as you head into the new year.

Advocacy & Community Engagement

National Council of Nonprofits | A Call to Action: Urge Congress to Block Proposal to Overhaul and Politicize Federal Grants

When Congress returns to Washington after the mid-term elections, it will have just four legislative weeks to decide whether to continue to block the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) from finalizing and implementing a government-wide proposal to overhaul and politicize federal grantmaking. If implemented, the proposal would create significant financial risk and instability for federal grantees, making it more difficult to provide vital services to communities.

Learn more and find opportunities to take action from the National Council of Nonprofits, including a sign-on letter and Day of Action on November 10!

Maternity Care Coalition | Organizational Sign-On Opportunity

Research consistently shows that tax breaks for families with children reduce child poverty and improve economic stability; enhance child health, education and long-term outcomes; and support workforce participation by helping parents afford the costs of raising children.

Pennsylvania currently lacks a dedicated, state child tax credit, placing families at a disadvantage compared to the 17 states that have already adopted similar policies. Supporting families is an investment in Pennsylvania’s future. A state child tax credit is a proven, effective policy that will strengthen our communities and promote economic opportunity for all.

Have your organization sign on to support a refundable state child tax credit for families with children who are less than six years old. This proposal, introduced by Representative Tina Davis, would create a refundable credit, and would include a phase-out for higher-income households to ensure that the most benefit will go to those with the most need. Learn more about this proposal here.

S.A.G.E | Senior Volunteer Mentoring Program

Sometimes a student doesn’t need someone to tell them what to do—they need someone to help them see what’s possible.

S.A.G.E. has been selected as the Eastern Pennsylvania partner for a pilot Senior Mentor Volunteer Program, supported by PA State Representative Jared Solomon and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and is looking for seniors 55+ who have an interest in becoming a mentor to a high school student.

The idea is simple—and potentially powerful: connect a high school student with an experienced adult who can help that student explore what’s possible.

A student might have a very specific career in mind—or they may simply know, “I’m interested in this, but I’m not sure where it could take me.” That’s where a mentor can make a difference. S.A.G.E. will work to identify an appropriate 55+ mentor based on the student’s area of interest. The mentor and student would meet approximately one hour each week, with the location and schedule determined in collaboration with the school, student, and mentor.

We would love to work with you to identify students who might benefit from this experience. Perhaps there is a student who has a career goal but needs someone with real-world experience to help make that goal feel more tangible. Or perhaps there is a student who is still exploring and could use a knowledgeable adult to help them begin connecting the dots.

To learn more or volunteer, contact [email protected].
