As we navigate this moment, we’re returning to voices that remind us how to stay rooted when the path forward feels unclear. Below is a reflection from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s 1967 speech, Where Do We Go From Here?

His words invite us to consider the relationship between love, power, and justice, and what it means to use our collective strength and strategy for the equitable and just vision we seek. We offer this reflection as a grounding touchstone and a reminder of our strength when we stay united in our values and vision.

Please reach out, stay connected, and know that this network is here with you.

Warmly,
Kristyn DiDominick
Executive Director

Reflection

A reflection for today:

Where Do We Go From Here?

“Now a lot of us are preachers, and all of us have our moral convictions and concerns, and so often we have problems with power. But there is nothing wrong with power if power is used correctly.

You see, what happened is that some of our philosophers got off base. And one of the great problems of history is that the concepts of love and power have usually been contrasted as opposites, polar opposites, so that love is identified with a resignation of power, and power with a denial of love.

Now, we got to get this thing right. What is needed is a realization that power without love is reckless and abusive, and that love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best, power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is love correcting everything that stands against love. And this is what we must see as we move on.”

Bucks for Kids

Learn More About Bucks for Kids!

Kids and teens in the care of Bucks County Children & Youth Agency get a rough start in life, having suffered neglect, abuse, or trauma. Bucks for Kids partners with C&Y caseworkers to fund the individual “extras” these kids need.

While Bucks County pays for housing, food, and medical care, foster parents only receive about $16 per day. They can’t afford “extras” that normalize life for these kids – some of whose parents are absent, disabled, or incarcerated. This is where Bucks for Kids comes in. Learn more!

The moderator guides participants through these concepts, encouraging them to bring personal experiences and imagination into their stories.

Participants then work directly with AI as a writing collaborator. The AI helps expand ideas, generate dialogue, suggest plot twists, and ensure narrative consistency. Seniors learn to refine prompts and direct the AI’s responses, seeing how human creativity and machine intelligence can work together. Learn more!

Prism Reports | After second killing by federal agents, Twin Cities resist in love and rage

During a press conference on Sunday, Walz described the shooting as “sickening” and demanded that ICE leave the state.

“What side do you want to be on?” Walz asked Americans in another press conference. “The side of an all-powerful federal government that can kill, injure, menace, and kidnap its citizens off the streets? Or on the side of a nurse at the VA hospital who died bearing witness to such government? Or the side of a mother whose last words were, ‘I’m not mad at you’? The side of tens of thousands of peaceful citizens who showed up to march when the windchill was 40 below because they love this state and they love this country?” Read more.

T&F Online | Record costs: examining the impact of eviction filings for tenants and their families

“Landlords file millions of eviction cases each year in the United States, yet little is known about the consequences of eviction filings for the tenants who resist them. Using concept mapping and survey methods, this study examines the costs and losses that Pennsylvania tenants and their families encountered after their landlords filed eviction cases against them. By focusing on tenants in the ‘best-case scenario’ – meaning they received legal representation and their cases were resolved with favorable or neutral outcomes – we attempt to disentangle the impact of eviction filings from adverse court outcomes. We conclude that regardless of case outcome, eviction filings trigger far-reaching and lasting consequences for tenant households, including immediate and long-term threats to housing stability, health, relationships, and financial security. These findings highlight how current eviction prevention strategies do not take into account the harms that accrue to tenants in the absence of court-ordered eviction, providing compelling evidence for harm reduction policies such as eviction record-sealing.” Read more.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy | Retreating From Race (soft paywall)

Nearly two-thirds of 408 nonprofit leaders surveyed by the Center for Effective Philanthropy this summer said they had experienced, or anticipated experiencing, pressure from funders to change how they talk to the broader public about their work.

Funders don’t appear to just be pushing grantees to send a different message. Following the election and into the first months of Trump’s second term, a significant number of grant makers changed their own language, watering down how they depict their work related to social justice, according to a study by the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy.

Some Grant Makers Remain Unbowed | In the months following the executive order, Rey Ramsey, president of the Nathan Cummings Foundation, like many of his peers, sought legal guidance. Ramsey was in charge of leading the grant maker’s commitment to racial, environmental, and economic justice, or REEJ, a strategy that had been adopted in 2022, and needed certainty that the philanthropy’s grant-making practices were within the law.

The lawyers confirmed what Ramsey, also a lawyer, already believed: The foundation’s practices—it does not make grants strictly on the basis of race—were entirely legal.

While risk assessments of legal exposure are prudent, they can “run amok” and cause leaders to veer from their core values out of fear, he says.

“Our beliefs are not seasonally adjustable,” he says. Read more.

National Council of Nonprofits + FRIED The Burnout Podcast | This Is Your Brain on Burnout: Why Nonprofit Work Hits So Hard and What Actually Helps

“Under chronic stress, the brain shifts into survival mode. The amygdala, the part of the brain responsible for threat detection, grows and becomes more reactive. You are quicker to feel overwhelmed, irritated, or defensive. Meanwhile, the prefrontal cortex, the part responsible for decision making, planning, empathy, and perspective, shrinks (as in, literally gets measurably smaller!) and starts to go offline.”

National Council of Nonprofits | When Resolutions Feel Like a Joke: Burnout, Resentment, and the Nonprofit Reality from 2025

“Resentment gets a bad rap. We are told it is toxic and unprofessional. We’re told to search for gratitude instead. But resentment is not a character flaw. It is data. It shows up when your effort has outpaced your capacity for too long. It appears when expectations have quietly become impossible and no one has adjusted them, including you.

In burnout recovery work, resentment is often the most transformative emotion. Not because it feels good, but because it points directly to where boundaries are broken, values are compromised, and systems are asking humans to behave like machines.” Read more.
